Do you like beer?
I like beer, not quiet as much as riding, but whatever.

Next year during the last two weeks of August I intend to go on a bike tour I've Dubbed "America the Brewtiful."

It's going to be starting in Vermont not far from Magic Hat Brewery that being my first stop, then onto Brown Brew Co in Troy then down to Cave Mountain Brewing Company in Windham NY, down to Brooklyn Brewing Co, and Finishing off at Riverhorse in NJ.

I'm hoping to ride and camp through the Northern Parts of this, not really set on all of the locations, I just like these, and they seem like a pretty direct route.(Considering doing Flying Fish instead of Iron Horse and Saranac instead of Brown) All of the loctions have brew pubs.

Any thoughts, advice?

Have fun. I love beer and I lover to ride. Nothing like pounding a few after a nice ride. While at Riverhorse be sure to try thier Hopalotamus, it's might tasty. There is actually a ride in NJ somewhere that goes from an Irish Pub near Philly to an Irish Pub in AC. Plan your route carefully, sounds like you may be in for some serious climbing through NY. Not that there is anything wrong with that just that it will slow you down a bit.

I like a crisp, clean beer. Nothing heavy. Except if the 'heavy' is a case of them.

If you head over into Philly there is the Manayunk Brewery on Main Street in Manayunk. Then head up the SRT to Phoenixville for Iron Hill and Sly Fox.

Slyfox makes an incredible Hefeweizen. I've been meaning to go to Iron Hill, maybe I can fit that in.

You're starting in Burlington - or just a bit south of it I guess - and you aren't stopping here?

http://www.vermontbrewery.com/

You really should. It's not far out of your way if you'll be at Magic Hat, the food is excellent, as is the beer.

When I lived in NH, I used to like Tuckerman's. Their beer is krausened, at least some varieties.

I just might do that, I think I've got about 12 days to do all this, I'll just have to see whats feasable.

Do you like beer?

Yes and no. I'm more of a Scotch kind of guy. Walker Red is my go-to utility booze.

We drank a world of beer crossing the country. Mostly mass-produced though. One guy in our group was an alcoholic. He would somethimes drink along the day's route. Now when I tour I almost alwasy drink wine. The GF doesn't drink beer, and wine is easier to carry.

Sounds like a fun trip you have planned.

Yes, but only if the beer has taste. Watery beer is a waste of resources.

Grew up in a town with a brewery, learned to like everything from the darkest stout to the most intense IPA. I've spent years training for the beer olympics, just waiting and hoping, because when they make it a sport I want to be drinking for the world title.

This.

I really can't understand why people like beer as something in/about it makes me physically ill long before I could get intoxicated. More for everyone else I suppose.

Not uncommon. Some people have been cursed with allergies to some of the ingredients used. That is sad:( I obviously do not have that issue

I don't drink it to get intoxicated. I just love the taste, the aroma, and the whole experience of trying different ones. In fact, I avoid getting drunk in general - I hate the headaches it brings on. That's why I almost never have more than one beer at a time, and never ever more than 2. In fact, I'd be surprised if I drank more than 2 beers in any given month.

Back in 1966 I spent two months working at the Elaston Werke in Waldkraiburg. My time there taught me what a good beer should be. From what I understand most of those old little breweries were bought up by the big ones. The factory had no drinking water. So it was the German version of coke or citronia or beer. No choice there!!!

I don't want to come across as an individual with a drinking problem, I just love beer. Usually my consuption is one growler a week, I live near a Tavern that has a great grolwer program so my win there.

A growler is only a half gallon, right? That's not that much beer for a week's consumption.

I just love the word GROWLER:) I have a GROWLER of Bells Oberon in my fridge in the garage right now:love:

A GROWLER:D a week is only 9oz a day. I think I spill that much.

I would say I am probably approaching at least 250 different brews I have had in the last few years. May have been disappointed 2-3 times. I find characters I like in almost all of them, so.................yeah..................I like beer:love:

I hope to brew my own one day. My Dad used to make some type of "Malt" homebrew that was pretty stout.

Nope. No beer for me. I'm convinced that my taste buds just never matured as most people's do. When your a kid, it is all about what is sweet. As you grow up, most people learn to appriciate more complex flavors, like the bitter taste in coffee. But I never did that. I have not tasted this flavor "too sweet" that I hear people talk about. I have never liked the taste of coffee or beer or most alcohols. I gained all my weight drinking soda pop and eating ice cream. :) But my wife enjoys having a designated driver around when she wants to meet friends for a few beers.

the only beer that I've ever met that I didn't like had some ridiculous ingredients like orange peel, or coriander, or both.

Not for me. I remember being allowed tiny tastes of my dad's beer when I was a kid and loving it. Once, when I was 8, we were on vacation at an uncle's house in California, and he and my dad were hand-cranking ice cream in the hot sun - they had a couple of cans of beer at hand for refreshment during their exertions, and while Dad was taking his turns at the crank, my brother and I snuck the entire can.

I loved it then, and still do, although my tastes have matured. Back then those beers were the basic pale American lagers (Bud, Schlitz, Hamms, Pabst, etc.) that I largely think of as tasteless now.
