Touring - Help! Who will ship a LHT frame to an APO AE address???

Thanks for any help. I'm looking at building my touring bike but all of the places I have checked will not ship to an APO AE.

I know that I can use a drop-shipper but that costs me extra and if there is a shop that supports me, I'll support them. Thanks again!

This is probably an off-the-wall suggestion, but have you tried going to the HHG section and seeing if they would be able to help you in some way? Or maybe someone transferring to your area would be willing to include it in their shipment. Another place to check is MilitaryTimes.com (used to be MCO.com) and go to their forums. There have to be other people who have had a situation similar to yours who could point you in the right direction without feeling like your pocket has been picked.

Tout Terrain is a German Builder, way cooler bike...

I have become a Rohloff IG Hub devotee,
theirs is about the best touring frame built around that hub.

I recently sold a bike frame to someone in Australia. I found a bike shipping service (Bike Flights, google it) where my buyer could arrange and purchase the shipping himself (much cheaper than quotes I got from carriers on my own). He then forwarded the shipping label .pdf to me and I dropped the bike box off at Fedex. 10 days later he got his bike. Maybe you could arrange shipping through this type of service.

Anyone who will ship USPS (you probably already knew that). All you need is someone with a QBP account that's willing to make a drop at a post office. Call your hometown LBS - they should be able to hook you up.

I don't know what an APO AE address is, but since you are in Germany, check out Bike 24. http://www.bike24.com/ . Their shipping to Canada is very efficient, and they have an excellent inventory of cycling goods. Prices are good too.

Prices for frames and such over here are quite freaking pricey, even with the VAT forms. Much cheaper for me to buy in States and ship here. Cheapest I have found an LHT frame is for $750. Ugh.

Considering you are in Germany try this shop. It's where I bought mine, and after shipping the price will be about the same as in the States. 369.00 EUR = 529.96 USD

Thanks Ziemas! Exactly what I was looking for. But a stateside shop came thru and it's still 50 bucks cheaper. wish i had seen your post about 30 minutes ago.

Just a quick note - standard bike boxes exceed the APO size limit. At minimum the front wheel will need to go in a separate box. Best would be to put both wheels in one box, brace the front and rear dropouts, remove the drive-side crank-arm and spider, the rear derailleur, and the handlebars. The handlebars and derailleur can hang by the attached cables if packed properly. You should not need to remove the fork. My 61cm Cervelo P3 arrived in Asia via military mail just fine this way.
