i'm curious, does anyone here know lucas?
I'm so blown away by his videos that I check his site 2 or 3 times a week in case he adds another video to it.....
even though it seems he only adds a movie clip once every couple of months,

Very cool. Nice to see familiar neighborhoods. Looked like they were freewheelin' too.

I think lucas lives around boston somewhere(bedford mass, maybe? 15mi form boston). Some scenes in the couch bike videos look familiar, in fact there is one scene in a couch video that is 2 blocks from my house!

I could make a video like that. The first 4 min 45 sec would be riding just like that and the next 26 minutes would be video of what it looks like to be dragged around atlanta under a bus.
the shot about 1min in where the fix rider comes flying past kicks a**.
whatever that is in the bottom right corner of the screen is really distracting.

Yeah, he's a Boston guy, or Boston area at least. Nice guy, fast too, I think he does some road racing... cat 2 or 3 maybe? He definitely keeps up with some of NY's fastest guys.

Looked like he was coasting a little there before he went between the cars, unless he was checking his speed by doing small skids. Nonetheless, great riding and awesome video as always.

Cool.....those guys have massive balls. Maybe I'm still just recovering from the crash, but riding like that scares the crap out of me.

Also does mtb racing and serves on MassBike's board (which chafes some people to the nth degree but I think love him or hate him, he brings the voice of a different type of cyclist than is usually a member of MassBike). The couch was in at least one Critical Mass ride and made the Globe a year or two ago. There was an article...mmm...last year in the Globe called "Life in the Lucas Lane".

I'd email it to you as I have the bandwidth, it is 30meg. If that is ok then let me know.

Are you saying Lucas was coasting a bit, or one of the guys he was filming? I wasn't able to see anybody skipping. What time mark did this happen?
Is there any reason to believe Lucas (or the guys he rides with) ride fixed? I assumed that he was riding a SS or multi-gear bike.

the skipping is right around the 1 minute mark.
i believe that lucas rides a multi-gear bike, but some of the guys in his videos ride fixed. you've just gotta watch for them.

What? The vid isn't already compressed?

I am checking around for a FTP program that has interrupt tolerance that you could use to download this and other big files. What problems did you have downloading it from the www.digave.com/videos site? If your connection is poor or intermittent an interrupt tolerant FTP client can help. Try...
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21558
and select FileZilla_2_2_9_setup.exe for download.
Documentation here:
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/documentation/
digave.com doesn't seem to allow FTP. There may be mirrors. Hope this helps.
165, mpeg is already compressed, zip won't knock it down much more.

This video had a lot of coasting in it- not that there is anything wrong with that, but I didn't see any skidding... unless possibly the guy with the red bike and yellow stripe on his back, since he is possibly unloading his seat while he stops pedalling. Not that I even care. Frankly, anyone can ride faster on a geared road bike anyway...

You can try wget.exe.
Open a command prompt and use this command.

geared or not, i don't care. those guys are pulling some mad moves in traffic, and i just like to watch.
fwiw, grabbing a pull from buses & cars would be hell while fixed.

People do it all the time. Not this person, rarely is traffic moving fast enough that it'd be even worth it, so my skitching skills aren't up to snuff even in the case that it'd be useful, at least not on a bike. (I have skitched on inline skates at 50mph!)

Every onece in a while I see a fix rider. The one just after the 1 minute mark is definately fixed. His cadence is a lot higher than many of the others and he is definately skidding as he moves in between the cars. I'm glad they took down the track bike vid. that thing just sucked.

dude came to richmond for a race. ended up showing the video at the party afterwards. pretty killer, but alas, nothing like the ones on the site. guess we just weren't of caliber.

i'm curious, does anyone here know lucas?
not really know him, but i've met and ridden with him a few times off road. mostly on some mellow group rides in the fells (i lived in boston a few years) with a local mtb group.
don't know him well at all, but he is a pretty damn cool guy. and wicked fast on any bike.
i recall seeing him cruising down some pretty ugly trail chatting on his cell phone, riding no handed, mess bag flying all over the place. very talented rider.
Did anyone watch the "Drag Race NYC" vid? Is there a post about it. If not, who here actually rides like that? Looking at the footage, it doesn't look like a person, let alone a bike could get through some of those gaps. These guys are nuts! I especially love the footage of the guy riding past the tour bus, rubbing his hand along the whole way. Crazy mo-fo's thats for sure!
