I went to the local county fair today. Here's what's popular in my neck of the woods.

Sheep with hoodies.

Oh that's friggen awesome!! A lot of the fairs that I go to have the car shows at one end. I end up not getting to see a whole lot because we don't stray too far from the group. I'll have to be bold and do it this summer.

Thanks for sharing, that looks like a lot of fun!!

I could just post a picture of people eating stuff on a stick. Pork chops, pickles, choc-covered bacon. You name it.

In Texas, everything is fried, we even have fried icewater and the simple yet mystifying fried fried.

Fried Twinkies?!

I think those were the first of the deep fried snack foods. They've been around for several years.

Chocolate bacon seems to be the "in" food this year, there were several places selling it. And there was deep fried chocolate bacon, too.

My daughter tried and and told me to avoid it. She said grease and kool-aid do not pair well together.

Actually, most of that food sounds kind of repulsive... and I love sweets.

I tried the deep fried Oreos last year and they weren't bad. The Oreos get soft and gooey like when you dunk them in milk. I stuck to basic soft serve ice cream for my sugar fix yesterday.

You probably would have brought your own. Just saying.

Actually, the battered potatoes seem pretty tame, as do the BBQ and cheeseburgers. The other stuff... meh, I'd eat any of it un-fried, though, except for the frog legs.

I would have tried the crunchy frog.

"We use only the finest baby frogs, dew-picked and flown from Iraq, cleansed in finest-quality spring water, lightly killed, and then sealed in a succulent Swiss quintuple smooth treble cream milk chocolate envelope and lovingly frosted with glucose."

I'm wearing shorts right now and I'll have you know my legs are decisively bird like.

How can you have a county fair when it's not even summer? Ours is in August. People haven't moved their plant starts outdoors yet!!

best fair food (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/22/travel/escapes/22rNYfood.html) of course the potatos won't be coming out of the ground for another 6 weeks or so...

I've had the deep fried bacon. Never tried the deep fried ice cream that they have at some of the fairs up here.

I've never had 'fair food' but i've tried fried oreos, pickles, ice cream, mars bars, brownies, french fries, pizza.
the oreo, ice cream, candy bar and brownie were tasty if I only had half then I felt like I couldn't get out of the booth in the restaurant.

Our fair is held at the local racetrack and it goes for 3 weeks until July 4. After that, horse racing season runs mid-July through September.
