i was practicing this trick today. to do this trick i put most of my weight towards the front of the bike, crouch down, spring up and slightly jump of the pedals.

i found i can get the back wheel off the ground by about an inch or so. any clues on how to get this higher? i find that my back tire (at least seems) to come off the ground before my front.

best way i've found to learn new stuff is to not ask here for help. you just get conf--ckulated.

There is no such thing as a j-hop. I think that I've said this on this board at least three times in as many weeks.

That guide is spot on, I wrote a quick summary the other day on another post, that is similar but that's far more detailed, good work :)
will be trying rock walks tomorrow, can kinda of do em already but that makes a lot more sense on how to do them.

Rice to me sounds like like you need to pull up on the bars to get 6 inches or so off the deck and then kinda lean forward almost pushing into the pedals to grip them and take the back up with you.....and practice.. :D

best solution, video it and put in here so we can see maybe ? just a thought....

Lift your front wheel up and as quickly as you can say "sass," lift up your back wheel.. forget all this leaning forward jiberish.. just keep trying.. this isnt like a barspin.. you really cant be taught how to do it.. just keep trying over and over and over.. you'll do a small one at first, and then they will get higher and higher.. and then you'll be able to control how high they are and you'll be the bunny hop master.. so just keep trying.

what do they mean when they say push down on the pedals and handlebars and then pull up smoothly? (to bunnyhop)

how do u "pull up" on the pedals

Your pedals should be grippy enough that when you put pressure on them your feet stick. So you point your tows slightly downward so after you extend your legs and your front wheel is off the ground you can put pressure on the pedals and pull your legs up by bending your knees. If you did it right your bike should follow your legs into the air. Sorry if that was really confusing just find someone who can do it at your local skate park and look at what they do. A bunnyhop is the hardest trick to explain you just have to get it.

i get it. my bike is heavy (about 38 lbs.) and my pedals aren't real grippy. ( could explain a little y i can't get it) so i can't expect too much

about mid january i am going to get a new bike. probably a haro backtrail X1. its only 30 lbs and has good grippy pedals

damn....i know we recommended getting rid of your next...but have you ever looked on ebay for a good bike? besides haro

rice400
11-11-04, 08:10 PM
yes. but i want to get my bike at Mikes bike shop because he will tune up/fix it for nothing. (except cost of parts)

if haro isn't that good y do u ride one?

Your pedals being grippy dont have anything to do with bunny hopping.. I have bunny hopped fine with completeeeeeely worn down pedals..

o. but i do know weight makes a difference. i hope its fairly warm tomorrow. so i can practice a little. lately the wind chill has been about 15. ( i live in Marshalltown, Iowa)

Weight doesent matter either.. dont let lese weight concious people fool you.. I learned to ride on a 40+ pound bike and now I can do everything I could do on that on any other bike 5 times better.. learn on a heavy bike and you will be jumping a light one over your house..

rice400
11-11-04, 08:18 PM
yep. when i get my new bike it will seem like it weighs 5 pounds (compared to my old bike) so i should be able to jump pretty good......

when i can consistently jump a foot or more i want to try grinding a small rail

sxe fbm rider
11-11-04, 10:40 PM
go for it man. I would start with a grind box or low ledge first.. you arent limited to just double peg grinds and you dont have to worry as much about balance.

What would be the fun in that. Don't you like telling people how to bunnyhop once a week :D...

If you don't like bmxtrix version try reading through

http://free-du.htnet.hr/trials/faq.html

A bunny hop is a bunny hop by any other name. Trials riders call it the j-hop...well...cause they like to rename the wheel. But really...bmxtrix has some awesome descriptions (I don't bmx I used them for my mtb djer) which transcend any discipline of biking (imo)...

Good luck :)

how do u "pull up" on the pedals

um just push ur legs against them so u have pressure on them, then after u lift up, kik the pedals to lift up the bike

sxe fbm rider

just jump.. thats all.. if you focus on how your legs are and what your left hand is doing you'll get confused and it wont be second nature.. it will be like a trick you have to think about before you do it.. just try to learn it just by "jumping." Just jump.. keep trying and it will become second nature, like a reflex, this is good.

That's what I always say - JUMP - Hit stuff. I think that big jumps are alright, but really you want small jumps. Something that puts your front tire in the air first, then your rear tire. You actually work your way down in jump size and learn to pull the bike up more and more.

I found learning to bunnyhop a joke. But now I realize that when I was between 7 and 12 we had a little curb that was about one inch tall that went towards a field and we used to use that one inch lip to jump off of and go for distance. It taught me the motion - front wheel LIFT rear wheel LIFT. I didn't know it then, but I do now.

So jumping is the key to bunnyhopping and it may take half a year if you haven't been doing it your whole life, but you want to practice using jumps and lips and you do NOT want to lift both wheels at once.

bo you do not.. I did for a long time.. my friends woudl always tell me I had to start lifting my front tire first.. but i never bothered learning because I hit ledges just as high as them .. and then they started hitting ledges higher than me and I realized I had to change how I jumped.. so a few years into my riding I had to relearn how to bunny hop.. and I did it by just trying over and over and over.. and I blew at it at first, then I got it..then I realized I had been jumping with pure power before and this sucked becuase I wasted alot of it just to jump.. so, yea, keep jumping.. you'll get it.. and then it will get better.

i'm starting to do better now. now i put my weight forward and crouch than i jump up and pull up on my handlebars as if the bike just pissed me off. now i can bunnyhop (both wheels at the same time, not front than back) about 3-4''.

Why is it you can say DON'T do something this way at least 50 times and still receive statements exactly like this in return? Why do people bother to ask for help, if when told specifically that doing it a certain way won't help them and will just be detrimental to their learning, they do it anyway?

RICE: I give up, you ask a fair number of decent questions, but really don't seem to pay attention to any answers.

really though, its getting kinda old: asking a question, getting an answer, then shooting it down like he knows a better way, just to ask the same question........

Why do people read warning labels and then do precisely what it says not to do?

at first i didn't understand exactly what they meant on bmxtrix.com now i have read it 3-4 more times and i understand EXACTLY what to do.
