Just started riding again after many years. I've got a great commute in sunny San Diego: 11 miles down Pacific Coast Hwy into Sorrento Valley. I've been using my vintage Trek 830 MTB with a few mods to make it more road friendly (slick tires, rack/fender, bar ends, comfy saddle) but its still a beast to lug up some of the hills into Del Mar on my way home. I'm considering purchasing a cyclocross (e.g. Surly Cross-Check or Masi Speciale CX) for more speed/fun but cost is getting in the way for now. I'm seeing lots of great advice in these forums!
