Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Vintage Viscount

This guy has been trying to sell this bike for around a month now. I was wondering if the asking price is actually accurate for the bike.

I'd say the asking price is about 3x what it should be.

That's what I figured. He has posted 3 times now and hasn't droped price. There has been this inflated sense of worth in Rochester lately.

This guy had this one listed for $600 at one point. I guess he got the hint and droped it, but It still doesn't look to be worth what he's asking. I could be wrong though. Still new to this scene.

I've had two similar viscounts in the last two years... one I bought for $10 and the other $70... both were refurbished with new tires, tubes, cables, and bar tape... and sold for around $150.

I think this guy has the classic... I looked my vintage bike up on the internet and found it selling for $1000 so I will ask for half that and see if I get it... rather than coming down to earth and truly understand what the bike is worth.

I recently saw a Viscount for sale here in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area CL for about $375 (I'm working for my alma mater for the summer). I've been trying to pick up a few bikes to take back to grad school because the pickings are a lot better here than in AL. I wouldn't have been interested in the bike for anything over $30 though. It need too much work. I'm pretty new to fixing up bikes and all, but I still do my research to get an idea of a fair price. It really does seem that people think that just because a bike is old it's a priceless antique. I find myself constantly telling people that their asking price is way too high, the bike was produced in the thousands (if not tens-of-thousands), and that if I payed them what they wanted any money I used to make it ridable again would like flushing it down the toilet. All is not lost though, I'll be checking out a Faggin (Fah-zeen) Italian road bike this weekend. It's got a fair price on it and has good potential if it has no major problems.

That CL bike doesn't seem to be the interesting Viscount, the one with the funky TA-copy crank and other Viscount branded parts. I wonder if it's really made in England.
