Alt Bike Culture - homebuilt wheel discs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

on alt bikes, not so much for aero advantage, but this still might come in handy !
i've been making some using the stretched lycra/spandex and resin method !
bit of a learning curve for me, but they're not bad !

Interesting, kinda reminds me of some threads I read on a car forum discussing making custom shaped sub boxes. Sounds like you are learning fast, can't wait to see what a perfected version looks like.

haha...perfected !
luckily this first version is going on my lowracer bent, so half with be hidden by tailbox.
but wanna do a 700 wheel, and a 20" too, so those versions will be better, with the learning curve !
hey, i saw some trash can lid discs on ratrod a while back, neat idea too !
I was going to mention the trash can lids, lol! I lurk rat rod bike forum every now and then. :)

Interesting technique. Has me thinking how else it can be used.

for my other 'bent, i've carved a foam tailbox, gonna lay some fibreglass matting, then pin tight with the lycra, then paint resin, see how that works !
but the lycra with two coats of resin seems quite tough, still flexible, well, enough for wheel covers !

Keep us posted!
You going to try to put some color to them, or just leave them au natural? For an alt bike, and unfinished look might look really cool.

we still talking my lycra discs yeah ?
gonna spray black, then put a white hypnotic swirl on, but these are for my lowracer recumbent, with a tailbox on back, so ya wont see much !
need to make some20" for the front, which i may spray silver.

c'est fini !
initial conclusion: not bad, they warp a little, a good glue holds the pads and velcro in place.
they sit fairly flat, trimmed up they dont rub.
as a one'ish off project, i'm happy with them !
and minimal cost too !
road test : velcro and pads not man enough for the job, but i have something else in mind.
flat, slot headed plastic bolts, flat head either side, if ya know what i mean ?
hot day, discs were quite soft, maybe three coats of resin would help !
edit: they are called binding screws, or book screws, or some number/license plate screws might work too, similar.
Nice, I like the look of those.
I would like to see any future products, cool stuff!
