According to this news linky here (http://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-06-pulse-longer-life.html), a rotary pump has been successfully tested on a human as a heart replacement. Having a continuous flow, there is no pulse.
I imagine such a thing would freak out any triage nurse.
Dick Cheney has one of those. I expect he would freak out a triage nurse with or without a pulse.

How do you tell if an unconscious person with one of these is alive? Will the heart keep pumping after they die? I suppose you could check for respiration, but I don't know how well that works in comparison for checking for pulse.

I suppose the pump would go as long as there is battery power, whether the user/patient is alive or dead.
Rotary? As in Wankel? Zoom zoom :D
