I had a couple old bikes sitting in the garage and I was about to give them away when I wanted to see if I could make a riding bike without spending a penny.

a puch built sears

a sears purchased free spirit

an old schwinn head lamp, tail lamp and dynamo assembly

and a box of hardware. Some grinding and drilling and it is rideable! No touch up paint is needed here.

Voila, still need to finish some things. Anyone want to donate some panniers or racks? :D

Decided to take this bike a bit further because it is being a lot of fun.

Repacked all the bearings and cleaned it up a little. Decided to add a rack, different fenders and try out a old ammo box for a pannier.

Love the old ammo box, they are very handy. Does the eight of the box make it more of a struggle to get moving, or throw off the balance since it is on one side?

Not at all. Wouldn't even know it was there if it weren't for the handle rattling when I hit a bump.

Good looking beater/hot rod! Love that chainguard.
Thanks for making the post that gets me off my butt and out to the garage.

Very cool setup done with spare parts and imagination, nice work.

Thanks guys. I'm kind of the local vintage guy and I try to convey to those who have the same interest around here to have fun with it with as little money as possible. This bike was rideable for free initially and I spent a few bucks on hardware to make it even more unique.

I'm always tinkering with something. I have another better that was done on the cheap. I didn't post it in the alt bikes because it turned into a nicely rideable road bike (to me at least)

Here is the link to it, maybe it can also serve as inspiration for fun on the cheap.

Not a roadie, but that road bike looks very slick. Also, I overlooked a 3rd gen camaro in your first picture here. Is it yours? I have always loved that body style.
