Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Just bought my first serious bicycle at 30 years old. Bought a Trek 7.2fx. I will be using it for fitness training. I'm a runner and wanted to switch it up a little bit. Didn't want to spend thousands on a traditional road cycle, yet.... Want to make sure I like it first. Any advice is sincerely appreciated.

Ride, ride, and have fun. Don't get too much into gizmos and doodads at first. Floor pump, frame pump, water bottle, lock and a small toolkit with a patch kit and multitool are a good start. Lights if riding at night, rack and panniers if you want to be able to ride to the store and pick up groceries etc. I also say helmet, but that's a touchy subject.
Depending on what you want to get into with riding later, a decent traditional road bike doesn't have to cost thousands either. You might end up with 2-3 bikes.

I'd suggest a basic computer that does average speed and ride time as well so you can track your rides and improvement.

Since I am a runner and already had a Garmin, I just use it. It works pretty well for me.

Everything dpeters posted but the rack. Bring a knapsack if you shop.

I got it here http://www.emacberry.com/gpslogger.html
I believe I got the link on this site in the forums. IDK if it does avg speed, but it makes a great map of the ride and offers reverse tracking to find your way out.
Nice choice on the Trek FX line - i have a 7.3 and love it. Get out and ride all you can and the bike gets better as you find your grove in gearing and what is a comfortable cadence for riding where you aren't getting to tired. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
