I really don't need to do this, since I've posted more head shots than a Congressman on Twitter, but here goes.......

Since this is a hair today gone tomorrow thread, what I look like when I'm not active in the outdoors:

I have two vices - bikes and basses. Back when I had time to play with a band, I alternated between a Sadowsky J and a Roscoe Century 5.

Taken a year ago when I was a very young 55.....

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk16/RhysWms/001-4-1-1.jpg

Today, 56 closing in on 57, 5' 1".....
A month ago I was tipping the scales at juuust over 250 pounds, the image below may have been when I started to drop some of that weight via my new bicycle. Today, with 252 miles ridden over the last 28 days.... my bathroom scale is telling me that I've been 237 pounds these last few days. I've done nothing about the way I eat, still do the wine & beer when I want (not often though), and will be switching up my routine come July.....

Ooo, oo, ooo! turtlewoman asked me about my new bike!

THAT..... is a result of reading, asking questions, going on-line, bugging strangers/bikers/friends for answers & opinions. What have I learned? I learned that folks know NOTHING except about that which they currently have or finally ended up with...... Freinds and strangers alike tell me that I ask too many questions, that I'm a stickler for details, that I should instead just plunge blindly and accept the dogma as dictated to me by folks who claim to 'know'. But I digress.... just frustrated that I'm one month into owning my new bike and learning just tonight.... how components of my bike don't fit me correctly.

That is an REI Novara Randonee "touring" road bike.

I concluded that I wanted a quality steel frame with which to absorb vibration and assist in perceived comfort. I also decided that I wanted quality heavy duty 36 spoke wheels to support my heavy butt and puncture resistant tires (to which I've done $70 worth of mods to make my tires even MORE flat resistant ((after both a front & rear flat tire in just a couple days last week)). The Randonee comes with a luggage rack, is praised for it's comfort, and is said to handle quite well when loaded with luggage. My 2009 model came with Shimano 105's, but popular demand has resulted in lower gearing with which to ascend steep hills.

And if you think my Randonee is a cool bike..... you owe it to yourself to look at the VERY neat REI Novara Safari with it's "butterfly" or European "trekking" handlebars. Such a COOL bike too!

This is me 2 or 3 years ago, posing in front of a recently completed woodworking project for CD storage. I was about 250 or so:

And this is last Saturday, having just completed a metric century at the Speedway. I'm currently 194:

This is a pic of me taken by Neil_B, The Historian, at Scoop De Ville. It was our ice cream rest stop along the SRT near Reading, Pa. Sure, I'm no ton a bike, but I have some serious helmet hair going on.
