"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - How to find races in Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can someone point me to a website for any of these areas that lists a calendar for road races? I'm having a hard time finding stuff on the google.
Thanks,
B.

the NM cycling webpage is well organized, the calendar is pretty clear.
Utah & Arizona were a bit more complicated IIRC, but I wasn't traveling much outside of state when I was down there, so I may be misremembering.
Great, Great racing down there however you find it - I hope you get out to some and have a blast.

Thanks. You don't happen to know what the NM state RR championship course profile looks like, do you?

I could have it all wrong, but if I recall (and the race flyer seems to verify per directions)... here's the scoop: I mapped it out... again, I could have this all wrong, I'm not taking any fault for this ;-)

awesome, thanks. not going to hold you to it, but it's nice to have a place to start given the written info on the flyer.

the scene down there is great - I hope you get to race with those guys... I miss racing in altitude+heat :-)
... and the breakfast burritos before/after the races.

you probably won't be shocked, but finding breakfast burritos worth the title up here is about as tough as finding a Gaddafi supporter at GOP events.

I raced in the tour de los alamos this weekend... got 5th. The guys were cool, safe, and nice to each other, but not thrilled about me coming in from out of town to score points at their race.

hey, brian: the wyoming part is easy--there are none! :)
actually, the cycling utah link already provided is the source. i only know of 3 wyoming road-related events, though i suspect there are a few local crits and such an or around laramie.
Dead Dog Classic (http://www.deaddogclassic.com)
High Uintas Stage Race (http://www.evanstoncycling.org/HighUintasClassic.html)
Jackson Hole Downtown Criterium (http://www.idahocycling.com/2011/05/23/2011-allen-butler-and-jackson-hole-downtown-criterium/) (there's one in idaho falls the night before)
LOTOJA also ends up here in jackson, wy.

Seems most of the races in UT I sign up for are on Sportbaseonline. sportsbaseonline.com

i've not done this one and -- unfortunately -- have to give it a miss this year, but i was wondering if you can expand on this. what makes it so awesome from your perspective?
the reason i ask is that i'd always heard good things, but in a thread some time ago regarding scenic rides/races, someone said the DD classic is perhaps the least scenic ride one would do in scenic terrain.
thanks! i'd like to do this in the future, scenic or not. :)

i'm going to venture a guess that the person who thought Ddog wasn't scenic was not doing the "long" course that P12's, 3's, and some of the masters do.
The short course turns around just before the crest of the climb, while the longer one crests, goes down, then turns around and comes back up the other side.
The crest of the climb itself is beautiful, with still-melting snow and a huge rock cliff to look at (if you can see straight).
The descent is long, straight, and generally has a stiff tailwind. My highest speeds ever are on that descent.
The last 7 miles are the most miserable 7 miles I've experienced in all of bike racing. False flat up with a stiff head/crosswind, after climbing a mountain twice. It's the sort of stuff you remember.
The next day is a decently fun crit, and a TT at altitude that's super fun as long as you bring mosquito repellent. The race is all about the road stage, and it is indeed a beautiful course.

thanks for that info, brian. i had to give the race a miss this year due to illness, but perhaps given what you've said it's not all bad as i'm only a cat 4 now (new to racing), but i'm hopeful that i might be competing in cat 3 events sometime next year.
i was psyched to upgrade to a 4 (yeah, i know, no big deal, but i was happy to move quickly) because it opened up events like the mt hood classic for me, and it seems like an upgrade to 3 will bring along more opportunities to race longer courses, an opportunity i would welcome.

Ddog was awesome except for the clouds of mosquitoes. Next up is the Capitol Reef Classic. Anyone?

looks like a fun weekend of racing. i'm heading to bend for the cascade classic the following weekend...and capitol reef is the ONE weekend where we actually have a local event, so i can't justify going. good luck & report back!
