Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've got a spare mountain bike tire and it literally says on the tire sidewall "Rear". I didn't know tires were designated front and rear. Is there any reason why this tire wouldn't work just fine on the front? It's a 2.2 width which is usually what I run on the front.

Short answer is maybe but probably not, depends on what it is and how you expect it to perform.
Some MTB tires are designed to be front and rear specific, but the tire police won't arrest you if you violate that.

Some designs are more front/rear dependent on others. At worst it will be mildly unpleasant, but that's enough for me not to run some rears up front. I once rode a bike with Smokes front and back. That was brutal.
Just out of curiosity, what tire are you talking about?
And while I'm answering questions with questions - Why is everyone so damn vague when they post questions here.
