Who-we, now you're talking. Here's what you do: sell all your bikes. Every last one of them. Buy that bike and a one way ticket to the West Coast. Ride the bike back. Tell your wife about all the money you save on shipping this way. Done deal!

It's nice to ogle, but it's funny too, because even if we could afford it, we'd still be too cheap to buy it.

Not sure. It seems to have a mish-mash of parts and no internal wiring (or at least I did not see any) so I think it will go lower than expected. If it were my size I would keep an eye on it..........

Couple of interesting items:

1) Frame is made from SLX, not TSX

2) Frame is unavailable to U.S.buyers, but will ship anywhere else in the world!

My grail limit is $300. Not many grail bikes at that level. So far, each bike in the keeper fleet has stayed under that figure (one bike was within $5)...

I think we now have an unofficial Grail bike thread.

I know it is not as fancy as the other beautiful bikes here, but since I can afford and really don't need something as fancy as a real Hellenic (I think that is correct) frame or a Hetchens made with the design like this.

I would easily settle for one of these, but the top of the line model of course

Totally off-topic, but man...I've seen such better bottom bracket creativity on bikes costing 1/10 as much! Why no fancy cutouts or anything? I know functionally it doesn't make a darn bit of difference, but check this out, for example:

With that said, a Zunow is my grail bike. *sigh*

Try searching "ancien velo" on French ebay. Much cooler stuff even though I have no interest in owning anything French. Last week this Clement sold for $1,300.

Yes, you did on both occasions.

The crank on the silver bike is a first generation Dura-Ace, factory anno and paint fill.

The crank looks like a first-gen Dura-Ace that with schmutz on the chainwheels or weird lighting for the photo. Shimano made some of 'em with black chainwheels and black in the crankarm groove. I'm not positive, but it looks right from here.

Here is where I get to learn from fellow C&Vers. How can you tell there are B's and not Super Corsas? I see flat fork crowns instead of sloping ones - is that the giveaway?

Which leads to several other questions. When did Cinelli start using the sloping crowns? And I thought that B's didn't use that unique Cinelli-style fastback arrangment, that only SCs had them. Am I wring about that?

Thanks in advance for the info.

The Mod. B and the SC both used the fastback seat stay. The Mod. B had the flat (Fischer?) fork crown, the SC the sloping. The SC had either Columbus (usual) or Reynolds 531 (rare) tubing and the Mod. B had Falk (Falck). There may be geometry differences but I don't know as my "B" and "SC" are different sizes (and years).

iab
06-23-11, 06:12 PM
In addition to vjp's comments, the SCs tended to have a bit more chrome but and have seen Bs with plenty of chrome too.

For the tubing, I have seen Bs with Columbus and a person with both types have weighed them and found the frames to be essentially the same weight.

iab
06-23-11, 06:18 PM
Oh, for when they started using a sloping fork crown, I have read in the Internet (take that for what its worth) it was in 1948. But I have seen a 1948/49 cambio corsa Cinelli SC without the sloping crown and without the fastback seat stays.
