I ride a century every week, getting home usually about midnight. Plus another 75 during the week including another club ride always ending in the dark. Get the brightest and best quality lights (front and back) you can afford. You need to see small things on the road against car headlights if you have small tires. Plus If you have a powerful light it will useful for off road riding too. There are lots of threads here about this, try a search. Also go to Ken Kiefer's web sight and look for links about night riding. Read up as much as you can. Be careful about being seen. Have fun, it is awesome. If it's cold in the winter where you live visit the Icebike website.

-- Yes I like to ride the residential streets at night to relax. There's hardly any traffic and it's VERY peaceful. Like other posters here on this forum, my bike and jacket are emblazoned with reflective tape and I use a headlight and blinkie lights.

At my 50+ age, cruising the quiet darkness is a relaxing refuge.

I commute, and, at this time of year, I go either to work at night or come home at night.
I have two ten watt lights and three flashers and I find my rides sooo deeply satisfying. :)

I have a few dark months for my commute going and coming from work. Lights and reflective tape has kept me going. Most of my ride is on the bike path. I come across a lot of animals on the path in the dark.

I've always loved night riding. I like it even more now that I have a good set of generator headlights and tail lights. When I used battery, I often forgot to charge up.

Those without lights lose out on much good riding time, particularly if they have a day job.

Sorry but to me night riding is both dumb and unsafe. Not an
activity for the sane.

WHAT!!!!! If I didn't bike at night I wouldn't come from from school, friends, and my girlfriends....well that a different story BUT it's nessary for some people to bike it's not dume or unsafe if you know what your going.

GEEK Back in the day, night riding was much too dangerous. Had to spend the night at my girlfriend's place ;)

So....there actually is a justification, for having lousy lights. :)
