Looking to replace the existing SRAM X4 on my current bike with X9 due to some really horrible shifting and integrity issues. Anyone have any experience with the X9 stuff? Will be installing all this on a Rockhopper.
Good stuff. Better bang for your buck with x7, but you can't go wrong either way.

Hmm maybe I'll look at X7, my buddy suggested X9. All I know is that either one is better than the crappy X4 I have currently.

I have X9 and XO on all my MTB stuff and really like it. A couple of the on line places have 2010 X9 groups for 349.00, Shifters, front, rear der. crank, chain and cassette. You may not need the chain, cassette, I like to keep a extra around.

I'm outta the loop now, but they make an X.9 crankset now?

X9 is decent, I've never ridden X0 but people say (like most SRAM stuff) the performance is similar and the only difference is the weight.
Since you are changing the rear der now is the time to think about if you want to go to a double crank, if you ever do want to change.
Of course if you put X9 on the problem is you will then want to upgrade your rockhopper frame :)
ed, there is an X9 badged crank now.
Googling...
...wait for it...
Blam!

Good to know.

Do tell, I can't seem to find them that cheap but I'm finding full groups.
This will be my first large upgrade to the bike and I'll be switching from an 8spd to a 9spd. I'm guessing I should pretty much bank on replacing the FD, RD, Cassette, Shifters and crank. Brakes are Avid Disc, which are fine, but I've hated the X4 shifting for quite some time. Really sloppy, slow changes despite having it tuned several times. Is an X7 setup any worse than X9 or should I just stick with looking at X9?
Edit: That X9 crank looks sweet.

The X9 group I got did not have the X9 crank, but it had a decent one.

What do you think about this deal:

Probably just stick with a triple for now.

Went with the X7 combo here:

Cassette:

Front Derailleur:

I think this should get a lot of my shifting issues straightened out. What do you think? Thanks for everyone that had some useful input, I really appreciate it.

Nothing wrong with the X7 you went with at all, good luck!

What did you think of the x7 front derailleur?

Been happy with my X9 RD. Shifts clean and its held up really well given that its seen some pretty serious abuse. Though i will admit i have an X0 RD sitting in my garage that i will be replacing it with next month.
