Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Retrogression straps fit?

I hear great reviews on the retrogression straps from members on this forum :

and I wanna pick up a pair - will they have any issues fitting the MKS GR-9's? Also, I currently run some Burro straps and have never ridden with clips, do they provide the same strength of foot retention? I've grown accustomed to the Burros, but I like the elegant look of clips.

I tried for a long time to get Retro straps to work with my beloved GR-9s. The problem is that the fixing straps that run through the pedal lie too close together to sufficiently support the foot straps. In practice, the foot strap flops over, making it difficult to slide your foot far enough forward. You'll end up with the straps around your toes, unless you reach down and pull them back while riding.

The Odyssey pedals Scrod sells work beautifully, however. The fixing straps are far enough apart to ensure the foot strap remains semi-rigid while you slide your foot forward. The pedals are ugly, but extremely functional.

That was my fear. I currently run some beefy bmx platforms and they are extremely functional, but I was looking for more of a classy look for a build I'm currently working on. Any other suggestions for a good fit for the retrogression clips? They seem to be too good a deal to pass up!

I have no experience with Scrod-straps and other pedals. I doubt anything other than BMX platforms will have a wide enough gap between channels.

I'm looking at the leather straps and clips, not the fat straps that look like holdfasts :)

Jaunty is right - unfortunately when you install them on GR-9s or other smallish track-style pedals, the lower straps aren't spread out as much. Because the straps themselves are top-heavy, this causes them to flop forward and are difficult to slide your foot into.

Scrod, will the clips and straps fit the MKS Sylvans?

im actually using gr-9s with the double straps from retrogresion and soma 4x clips and ive never had any problem like that ever

Ha! For some reason I thought you were talking about the V1.5 straps and retract everything I said. :lol:

You can absolutely mount those 4X clips and double straps on GR-9s without any trouble. Because GR-9s only have holes for single straps, all you'll need to do is tuck the front strap in using the bolts holding the clips to the pedals like so:

(The pic shows really long bolts being used but the hardware that comes with the clips will be plenty long enough to secure the strap.)

I was wandering :| Ha ha but that is exactly what I meant, sorry for the confusion. Do the bolts hold the straps in ok? Ever had em slip out from behind the bolts?

The straps actually fit pretty tightly in between the bottom of the pedal and the bolts. The Wellgo track pedals on my 725 are also like that with only slots for one set of straps - I'm running doubles on them and I've never had them slip or pop out.

I feel like I plug these guys' straps a lot, but for good reason: they're super secure, work with most standard track pedals, and don't look beefy like BMX pedals/straps do.

I honestly still love the look of clips + double straps, but when it comes to comfort and practicality, I've stuck with my Auroras for a year now and they're still taking a beating.

Those Aurora straps are the best option if you want to use a thicker velcro strap with track pedals. I know someone who uses them too and they've held up exceptionally well.

You'll most likely need to pull the bottom straps through with pliers and they'll be top-heavy. For those pedals, you're better off going with Aurora straps.

just curious, what makes those aurora straps better suited for a track type pedal? i have the retro/odys pedal combo now and love it, but just curious. they look a little thinner maybe?

They're thinner and not as heavy.
