BMX - Want to TRY BMX ...Bike Advice wanted

I know that Wal-mart bikes are put together lousy, as a rule. I do have a GREAT hybrid, tho from the
LBS. I would LIKE to try BMX...and mess with it...BUT ..Im not sure I'll go for it..or maybe
my age wont go for it..*not saying my age, but I'm no teen" ...
so with that all in mind, and not knowning ANYONE with a BMX that I could thrash around,
wouldnt a K-Mart or Wal-Mart bike be a good one for experimenting on?
It would seem to me theyre probably not MADE terribly bad, but rather assembled bad.
So some tightening up by the LBS, might be the answer??????

wal-mart or k-mart bikes are not realy BMX bikes there like kid bikes that are only made to look cool. if you are a bigger rider you would probably break them by standing on them. If i were you i would go to your local bike shop(a store only for bikes and maybe boards) and pick up a Haro F1 or F2. There only like 50 bucks more expensive than wal-mart and k-mart bikes but way more durrable.

well hes probly got a budget of about 100 to 200 bux since hes been thinkin about walmart bikes.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. I just spent 400 on my hybrid at the local bike store..and THAT was a deal ...but I dont want to spend alot on a BMX at this point, in the event 1) I just end up not liking it or 2) mmainly its a fiancial thing...*which should probably be #1 *..heh..

If you want to be proper.. you should have written "properly."

If you aren't trying to really get into bmx for sure, you want a below entry level bike that may fall apart, but is very cheap and cheaply made.. then it will work.. It may last you several months if you keep it up.. and if you decide after a few months that you like it.. it would be a very good idea to get a better, at least entry level bike.. but if you want to spend $100- go for the wal-mart bike and just keep it running as good as you can.. and definately get a better bike if you ride for even a few months...

First off: No, a bike from Toys-R-Us/Wal Mart will definitely make you feel like bmx is about the lamest sport on the face of the earth. The bikes from these locations are extremely heavy, but moreso, have poor design which makes them respond very poorly to riders who are actually trying stuff on them.

If you are on a tight budget, then please go to eBay and look for a used bike. You can likely find a $300.00+ bike for under $100.00 there and you will then have a bike that is good and is durable for a throwaround price. If it ends up not being your thing, then put it back on eBay and you will possibly get what you paid for it.

The second part being: Do you want to race, or do freestyle? Street, dirt, vert, flatland??? The bike matters.

I've noticed a few cheap haro bikes and some decent solids goin for under $200 on e-bay.And if it's not your thing then what he said.
