Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Leader 721tr cabling! How creative can I get?

So I'm finishing a build and all I can think about is how much of a shame it'll be to run a cable from my horns down to my Sturmey 3speed internal back hub, affixed to the frame with zip ties! Ugh!

This has lead me to some serious thinking about what to do. Should I drill the frame out and run the cables inside the pipe? Should I have custom cable clips made to match the aesthetic? OR....

Does anyone have any ideas about mounting my shifter to the seat post? I plan on shifting very infrequently, so the location isn't bothersome. It's just the logistics that are tripping me out.

I anticipated the "why do this" comment...

Because I can ride fixie on this hub, most importantly.

Secondly, I am doing about 25 miles on my other fixed right now, but am limited and unable to go to the next distance echelon because the north shore of Long Island is about as hilly as it gets. I'm hoping this will allow me to get to speed faster at flat land and take on some bigger elevations where I'm burning myself out.

That bracket scares me. At least take 5 min. and round the edges/take off the extra material. Have seen a piece of metal like that do major damage to a person's leg (long story, got to see some bone).

I was thinking that when I posted the pic too. C'mon mucky...tidy that thing up!

Not to steal your thunder, but I have to say thank you for opening my eyes to the fact that you can get quite creative with a bar end shifter...it doesn't necessarily have to be installed in the handlebars... I might have to undertake a new project...

damn muckyshifter is a whole new level...........
and its strange but my legs never seem to touch the bracket somehow........... but maybe i still should for the kids. for the kids.

I don't think it applies to the 3speed fixed, but Sturmey lists SLS30-P 27.2mm (common seat post diameter) 3 speed shifter. (page 20 current catalog. )

I'm thinking about the same thing for my track bike with a 3 speed coaster wheel. Maybe call it the "salami shift" or "ball shift". Maybe just the "reach around". Lots O material there.

I did the north shore mansion ride on this bike and you really lose out on the wicked fast downhills riding fixed single gear.

I've run seatpost shifters on choppers that I have welded up. As long as you aren't shifting constantly it isn't that bad...

Here is one with seatstay mounted shifter... had to be very careful on bumpy roads.

Ever finish it up? I went coaster brake. My bike had cable stops for a rear brake so I used those and a fulcrum clip. You can just see the cable at the top of the picture. Gotta paint over the "one" and make it a "three"
