Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 80's schwinn buld up

Just wanted to post this up because I am having such a blast building this bike up for a friend. He let me have creative control of this build and have gotten to sharpen my skills in the paint department.

It started its life at an interesting store, pretty sure I found where all stolen bikes in the Denver area go to. We picked it up for 150 with everything. Stripped and started taking it down to steel. When we got it it was Hot orange, Hot Yellow back to hot orange.

After stripping it it was decided to do a green yellow metalic but the key was to show the original steel through the paint. I think it turned out pretty good.

Clear Coat goes on tomorrow and should really make it all pop.

Whats the consensus from the BF

that original paintjob was hot, but the steel touches are nice
excited to see it built up! (make it a roadie to compete with the highlighter shwinn a bfer has)

what's up with your paint? why is it so rough?

its ruff because thats the way my friend wanted it to look. Instead of sanding the primer down to smooth we sprayed it without the sanding process. it makes it look like a flat paint job more than it would if we had sanded it down. I have to say it was his idea and I am surprised it turned out the way it did. the Contrast looks pretty nice and clean. It looks like a rat rod paint job with primer black but with green instead. I think if it was mine i would have sanded it all down to make it smooth like the metal that shows through but its not my bike.

As far for the original color, i tried for two days to convince him to keep those colors, but I lost out on that. Plus Florescent colors have a quick tendency to fade in nature, I have painted a lot since I normally paint race plastics for the guys I motorcycle race with. But the color is only good for about 6 months if its sees a good amount of sun.

I like the logo idea, but I thought most clear coats don't adhere to raw steel?

They don't. I have a friend that has a powder coat shop so I clear powdered the frame for 20 bucks. Then masked off the logo and put primer down. Normally let the primer cure then sand but we wanted to see what it would be like. Painted and then cleared over it all. As I said really wasn't sure how it would look without the sanding but it looks pretty sweet. With a retro rat rod feel.

Like. And eventually, green and brown will match, as well.
