Tandem Cycling - Comment on my upgrades before i make the purchase

Currently i have a 1998 Cannondale RT 1000 with bar end shifters and 8spd drive train.
Here are the upgrades i have planned. Comments on how well they will play together, incompatibilities, better options, or other comments are appreciated.

Shifters - Campy 10spd (Probably around the chorus line - used)
Front Derailer - Campy 10 Speed Triple (Probably Chorus)
Rear Derailer - SRAM X9 or X0 - Long Cage 10 Spd
Cassette - SRAM - thinking something around the APEX line, 11-34
Chain - KMC 10speed
will use a shiftmate to help it all work

Cranks and timing will stay stock for now.

Why the Campy shifters? Just adds complexity, with difference in cable pull.

Preference of course. I really never liked shimano, doesnt fit my hands and it doesnt feel solid. I have Record on my single and love it. I tried sram and like it, but they dont make triple stuff. Swapping a crankset is too pricey for todays project.

Have you tried the newer versions Dura Ace, Ultegra or 105? The 7900, 6700, 5700 series are supposed to fit your hand differently.

Just seems like an unecessary complication to go the Shiftmate route if you can avoid it.

I agree. Since you probably need a new wheel for the 10sp cassette, why not just get a Campy wheel? There are wide range cassettes available for both 10sp and 11sp Campy.

We're using Campy 10-speed shifters with a SRAM X9 10-speed rear derailleur, shifting a Shimano XT 11-32 10-speed cassette (actually, I switched the first two cogs to make it a 12-32 10-speed cassette with no big jumps). This combination works great without any shiftmate - the shifter/RD combination is actually working better than the Dura Ace 10-speed shifter with XT 9-speed rear derailleur that it replaced.

Suggest Campy Centaur Carbon shifters $166 at Ribble:

Cheaper, lighter than Shimano and shifts better IMHO.
Campy is also repairable whereas Shimano is disposable.
Campy has quick release if you are using brakes without one such as Mavic SSC.
I am using with Ultegra 6700GS derailleur and Shiftmate and it works great.
SRAM derailleur seems like a good choice if it does indeed work without a shiftmate.
