Hello. Do you know of a place where I can get metal buckles for a messenger bag? Something like on the current seagull black bags looks good.

Also, what material do you use for the trim? Is it something specific, or is it just thin strips of generic fabric? Thanks for any help.

trimming is called trimming the buckles I can't ID them contact seagull the guy is really cool about sharing info
I liked to use 10000d cordura when I was making bags and most of them are still in use after 6 years
you can get a trimming guide and all that from places like rochford supply and even joanns

I really want to have a go at making my own messenger bag. Unfortunately I don't have an industrial sewing machine and don't think my sewing machine would be strong enough to go through any material that would make a good bag.

Maybe look for an older sewing machine with all metal parts? I've heard they will last longer than new plastic ones, and you can get them for very cheap if you don't want to invest in an industrial machine.

As for solid sewing machines. Anything 60s should ram through whatever material you may be thinking. Maybe $40, depending on your market. Just invest in needles and googling manuals to figure out how to string the bobbins.

It has a metal frame, so it's not just junky plastic, but I just got it and would hate to ruin it after only having it for a few months. Plus I think it would be kind of silly to spend $40-50 on a sewing machine when the only thing I would really need it for is making my own messenger bag (which would probably suck).

And what about foam padding? Anyone have an awesome source for that?

What about sewing by hand? Is that an option?
