General Cycling Discussion - Dumb newbie question--standing up your bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, my new bike is going to be the first one I ever owned that didn't come with a kickstand attached. :p

So, what do you real bikers do with your bikes when you're not on them? Lean them against the wall? Hang 'em up?

Excuse the stupid question, but I haven't left a bike laying on the grass since I was 8, and don't want to start now!

Find somwehere to lean it, or lay it on the ground....simple as that. Hardly and mountain bikers use kickstands anymore.

My friend built me a two bike bike stand that I hang my bikes on.

In France, where kickstands are as rare as good beer, they will stand up bikes by putting a pedal against the curb.

Lay it, drive-side against a railing, wall, post or tree. Use the lugage rack, saddle or rear tyre as a point of contact. not the frame.
Use the bars to balance it, but dont rest the bike with all the weight through the bars, or it may fal over.
Usually you will lock up the bike against an object, so it wont fall over.

If you must lay it down on the ground momentarily, lay it on it's left side.
