Foo - P90x

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello, along with cycling I have been doing the infamous p90X. For some of you that dont know, P90X is 1hour a day, every day for three months. Every day is different and as the days progress the workouts become more intense. I have been at it for 70 days and I AM JACKED, 6 pack in, and the rest of the body cut. The first week of this is pure hell. Probably 1/2 of the people that attempt the workout give up right there. But those of us who stick through it are rewarded. To even start a program like this you need to be fit. I lost 4 inches off of my waist and lost 15 pounds. This might not be substantial for some but muscle is heavier than fat. This is by no means a promotional post, I am just posting my review of this product

And that's the issue I have with it. They do not advertise it that way, because if they did, then couch potatoes wouldn't shell out their $80 (avg price) for the possibility of looking like a billboard underwear model for only 1 hour of daily effort for 3 months.

Ha, I don't even get 5 minutes a day to poo....when would I find an HOUR every day for three months to exercise?!!!!
I have a co-worker who did P90x and he wasn't fit at all when he started. Now he looks great...almost too great in a gross-body-builder way, but my point is that he sure wasn't fit when he started.

So your saying you keep up with the 50 second long(15-20) pull up intervals? Nice!

Its mostly not even about being fit, its how hard you push yourself and your willingness to do it.

yes....but those are my weakest point.
In the pushups, I usually hit around 30, except the decline, usually around 18 there.

If the two guys at my apartment gym are any indication of the program's efficacy, then you'll be pretty much ripped by the end of it. These guys are on the last week, and while neither of them was a slouch to begin with, they've both got the Spartan-warrior-from-300 look going on now.

It's a huge time commitment, which is why it works so good. 1 month in.

Its probably 80% diet though.
If you do the workouts but don't follow the diet, you won't get cut like the ads show.

There's a special diet with the training?
And do you need to get any equipment for the exercises in the plan?

you need some dumbells or some bands, a way to do chinups, and its recommended to get some push up stands as well.
The diet is 3 phase.
Phase 1 is a hi protein lower carb diet
Phase 2 ups the carbs
Phase 3 ups the carbs even more.
P90X is so 2010.
I migrated to TRX. :)

I'm waiting for P91X, once they've worked the bugs out.
so what happens when you get to the end of this intesive training/diet regime? do you still have to keep excercising/dieting at that level until you burn out. or do you stop and start to resemble Jabba the Hutt?

P90X: Totally recommended for diabetics! Look good for that ER trip!
I wouldn't go that far.
There is a decent emphasis on fruits and veggies.

Ironically, I tried partying with the SCA a number of years ago. Their rapier fighters didn't like me because I was too fast for them and no "amateur" should be able to beat their best. Also went up against a guy holding one of their stupid large-sword mockups with a smaller, lighter sword. Took him down, too.
It ended up that the SCA wanted too much time devoted to them and all their people, at least in Tucson, just wanted to get drunk and screw each other all the time. Not my scene. I also hated how they would dog on anyone who had something that wasn't period-specific, yet they drove to all their events, communicated through email, and brought electric generators to their camping events. Lame.

You have a good point. My MD maintains if everyone had 20 minutes of vigorous sex daily, there would be no fat people.
