I'll start by saying I have no illusions about making back the $$ sunk into this project-- acquired for not too much as the result of a search for a Brooks Pro saddle-- since then I have upgraded the frame's pedestrian equipment as follows-- Shimano cartridge BB to replace the worn out original; Tektro long reach brakes to replace the flabby Weinmann 600's; Cane Creek aero levers; Belleri NOS gold ano bars; Jagwire cable housing; rebuild Maillard 36h hubs w/Sun 700c M13 II rims; CST 25c tires; SR Apex crankset, polished; SR Laprade 27.0 seatpost, polished; Bullseye jockeys on original equipment Suntour Vx RD; 120mm SR stem, polished; VO bottle cage
i mean, its ludicrous, but i intended to keep the bike-- but i've gotten into racing again, and as weird as it sounds, big old steel bikes just aren't cutting it for me...

+1 You will not likely recover your costs for the upgrades.
It's probably about a $225 bike as it stands - a little less than my full 531 Atlantis.
These are fine bikes but they don't enjoy a large following so they are not likely to command as much as the equivalent Raleighs - especially in larger-than-average frames.
Hmm, what happened to the 1984 Dawes catalog on bulgier.net?
I know I've seen it, and there are links to it from here, but it's not there right now.

just a bump to say the bike just sold on ebay for $405.00 -- i'm happy with that, for sure

You did well :thumb:. I would have guessed my Atlantis would only bring about $250 (Of course I might be right about that!)
I've got three 531 bikes in the queue right now. I need to put them on the bay.

thanks guys-that number gets me in the outfield of the ballpark of the amount of $$ i had in it-- as much fun as i had dressing it up, once i started racing again and spending a lot of time on my new 58cm CAAD 9/DuraAce/Mavic race wheel bike, this machine felt a 50s Chrysler to ride. it was just sitting there. the young buyer was a really big guy who fit the 63cm frame perfect and just grinned his head off after the test spin. it was cool...
A 50's Chrysler with a Hemi?
I was following your ad on E-bay because the Dawes is my size and I follow anything my size. I thought the local pick up only was going to hurt you but in the end you did excellent. There must be a lot of tall bikers in your area.

thanks Kobe. i wanted to do local pickup only because i didn't think i'd get what i wanted to get for the bike when the buyer had to factor in shipping costs....as to tall bikers in my area, i DO live in Texas ya know...;~))
