I have a 1985 Raleigh Team USA with all original drive train components that have been fairly well maintained over the years. The last few weeks, there's been a louder and louder creaking sound coming from the BB or crankset, it's hard to pinpoint it.
I'm assuming the parts are just reaching the end of their usefulness and probably just should be upgraded. What I'm not quite sure of though, is if some of the more modern crankset/BB combos, like:
Will they even work on an older bike like mine?
Or, in anyone's experience, is this something just upgrading the BB would be sufficient to fix?

If all original drive train components that have been fairly well maintained over the years, it is extremely improbable that you would need to replace the bottom bracket. All they require is a little grease and maybe some new bearings now and then.
Be advised that there are many things on a bike that can make noise and the sound tends to propagate through the tubes and emanate from points remote from the source.

I refurbished an 85 Team USA, and put more modern components on it. The drive train consist of a Shimano square taper cartridge bottom bracket, FSA Vero compact crankset and a Shimano 7 speed 14-34 freewheel. Sora front and Alivio rear utilizing Sunrace friction + 7 indexed downtube shifters. The brakes are R450 calipers with Shimano aero levers. Wheelset are Weinmann LP18's with Quando hubs (I should have spent the 10 bucks more for the CR18's) with 27 1 1/4 Panaracer Pasela TG's. The frame was powdercoated black, saved the headbadge as the only identifying mark, all decals were stripped off. Made a great fast touring bike. It used to be my favorite bike until I rebuilt a 70's Schwinn Super Sport that has a better fitting frame which made me faster by being able to use the drops without my belly getting in the way.
That BB most likely just needs some TLC.
But if you want to upgrade to newer stuff that bike will easily accept modern components as it's got standard threading and sizes. Some of the minor issues will be rear wheel spacing, likely that is 126mm and new road std is 130mm. That's a steel frame so it could be spread to accomodate it, if not close enough to stuff it in. other issues can be recessed brake mounts, but that probably is already set up for recessed. Brake reach may require different calipers if 700 wheels are used.
