Hi there! I am from the Philippines and have been road riding since 1989. I currently ride a Colnago Masterlight (size 56cm C-T) and a Giant TCR team special black anodized (size medium). Both Campagnolo Record equipped.

If any of you have questions on these two bicycles, feel free to send a line. Bye for now.

Hey Tim and Oscar! Yeah, I'm from the Philippines, too! Well, my family left when I was only 2 years old. I was able to go back when I was 12, but that was a while ago...it was great though! I was out in Bataan for a year and a half, but I had to go back to the States since my Dad's project was over.

Anyway, glad to see you in here, Oscar !

Musta na mga pare/mare?

I'm from Makati, and currently do not have a group to ride with. I started cycling last December as a replacement of my former sport, rowing, which I could not engage in ever since I graduated from college. Hope some of you are from Makati so I can finally find a group to ride with.

FYI..I am STILL slow =)

E-mail me if you guys wanna talk cycling or whatever . I am particualrly interested on a lady's opinion since I have never met or SEEN any female cyclist in the Philippines =)

Not to worry dexmax! According to the forecast, the storm will clear up by tomorrow morning! My bike is already prepared for tomrrow's hammer session!

Speaking of trainers, you can find a lot of them being sold here in Manila. Most of them are made by Minoura though...so if you want to buy a Tacx or another brand, you might be hard pressed. By the way, what is the material of your frame? If it simade of aluminum, DO NOT mount it on a trainer..it will hasten it's wear. Use ROLLERS instead.

Post lang ng post dito mga kababayan!!

I spotted one set of Minoura rollers at Powerbikes (Rockwell) for P5000...not bad for rollers eh>????

I have a Minoura MAgturbo that I got for around 3000 pesos...it eats up your rear wheel and I only used it with my chro mo frame. Not bad if you wanna keep fit through the rainy season!

Mine is a cromo frame with a columbus thron tubeset. I did the geometry myself and hired someone to build the frame to my specs.
I am having it painted at the moment. It will be finished, hopefully, by saturday. But it won't be on the road though, until on monday or tuesday. I ordered the Mavic cxp33 rims to go with the XTR hubs(w/ 12-23Tcogs syempre)... I'm having trouble getting good road components out here(have to get the parts from Cebu and/or Bacolod)..

At the moment I'm riding Carlee's trek.. hehehe...
Its light and has 52/42 chainrings, so I can still maintain my average.

Pre, do those rollers accomodate 650C and 26" w/ slicks?

Aba! great looki'n bike you got there.

I always wanted those shimano wheelsets but thought it wouldn't be able to carry my weight (i'm 200lbs and shrinking).

Kaya pala(that's why), chick magnet on wheels, hehehe...(joke only):D

I'll post your bikes pic(i edited it a little to make it clearer), if you don't mind..

Sweet! Columbus Thron! That will make it light. OTOH, my frameset is made of Columbus Zonal...not ultralight aluminum hence my bike isn't so light. My previous frame was steel too...Tange yata. Post a pic of your frame once its done!

The wheels are not Shimanos...they're Formula Xeros..I got them for 9000 pesos in Cartimar. If you want the Shimanos, come here! The R535 is now being sold for P8000, while the R540 (2003 model 105 level wheelset) is being sold for P9500! Pwede na diba!

If you are concerned about durability, don't worry. Everyone says Shimano wheelsets are bombproof and I know one guy here who uses it for "byahe" (roads are generally BAD when we go out of town) and he has not needed to true it yet.

:)

yeah right!! har har . . . well what can i say, am agressive alright but in a demure way. . :p

am comfy with the set-up(seat about 3 inches higher than the handle bar) coz its practical and aerodynamic ... its nice to be competitive(the looks only) sometimes:D

depending on the frame's(the one that was built) success, I'll be making plans for a 650C triathlon bike. 650C is almost identical to the 26" but narrower(for use of 23mm tires).. I will need to find an old road/touring frame(these frames are big) w/ nice tubesets(reynolds or columbus). I get my materials via the old(imported) frames that had damage(due to crash, etc..).

Hey Carlee. Ever thought about getting drop bars? They let you have an agressice position when you need one...and you can use the tops when climbing or just tooling around..helps provide a variety of positions during long rides :)

No, i don't race... I don't have plans, for now at least.. I just got back into cycling(about 9 months now), and I'm not in shape for any race..

I'm still trying to train and get my strength back(i hope, it was a long 7yr. break). I'm riding everyday for this(20km/day at least), and still am trying to get my average(speed) higher..
My route is 70% uphill with its share of steap grades.

The 650C(triathlon) frame I plan to do is for carlee.. I figure the 650C wheels will make the standover height lower, perfect for her. For now, she's looking at some road frames, I believe she likes the GIANTs(Al)..

I'll let her try out my bike(when its finished)first, if she likes the ride with steel frames than that of the AL frames, I'll make a steel frame for her...

You might be interested in joining the annual Fil-Chi criterium at the Fort on June 8. There will be a "begginers" category for newbies or people just getting back to the sport. You might want to try it, it is loads of fun. :D

There will also be a pro-am category...the local pros will also be racing there!

i have ridden with strong riders when i was still in pampanga(last year) and i could hardly keep up.. some of them participated on the marlboro tour several years back.. Only knew them by thier first name though.

Actually they were the ones who influenced me to go back into the sport..

WOW! I canNOT keep up with the tour riders when I raced with them in a crit a few months ago. If you can :hardly" keep up with them, you can surely keep up with us!

Come join the race!

We(our group) was only with them for about 35-40kms(And we took a right turn and they were going the other way...) I could not keep up with them at that pace longer than 45kms. I remember I had to take a break right after we took the turn, meh legs were shaking like crazy...:D
Average Speed was about 35-40kmh.

Not bad! Those pros are pretty fast. We were hitting 60 kph during the crit and stayed at around 45-50 kph....I dropped out just as the pros broke away from the main pack of aspiring pros...I tried to hang on to the break but we were already at 60 kph (top gear ko na!) and they were STILL accelerating! Unbelievable.
