When I install my new wheel, there's a significant drag that results when I tighten the QR. I can eliminate the drag by lessening the tension, but it feels that its too loose.

Also, what is the set screw for?

EDIT: Sorry, that's the pic of the rear wheel. The front wheel has the same set screw on the hub.

The set screw is so you can get to the seal bearings when needed ,to repack or replace when the time come. How are you setting the QR ? lift the lever until it line up with the ground , tighten the nut and close the lever . it hurt the hand when done right. How are the cones against the bearings ? there should be a little play in the axle before you mount the wheel and it will go away once it mounted.

If I do it that way, that's when the drag shows up.
There's no play on the axle when not mounted. Should I loosen the cones?

1. That is a rear hub, not a front hub
2. That hub has 'sealed' bearings and does not have adjustable cones.
3. The set screws hold the aluminum axle cap in place on the axle. I cannot recall from when I had the same hubs if the axle cap screws on or if it simply slides on. If you loosen the screw you will find out. Try moving the axle cap so it is a hair further away from the hub body and retightening the set screw. Perhaps this will remove the tension from the bearings or whatever is causing the drag - it might also be the axle cap rubbing against the hub body.

Like I said, I had the same hubs some time ago. I didn't like the rear one at all, but I know plenty of people who rode with them for many happy miles.

The cones are adjusted a little too tight. There should be slight play in the axle with the skewer open.

Its non-adjustable. I will try fixing it as above. Hopefully it goes away.
