All,

I am new to bike forums and have been looking to either purchase a newer bike or build one from scratch when I ran accross this frame and it interested me. I have done a little research on this site.

Is there a way to tell what type of nishiki this is and what is a fair value? Also, please let me know if this is a ripoff.

Appears to be legit, and a good deal if it fits you. BITD (early 80's?), Nishiki brought these in from Italy, supposedly "made by Colnago". More likely they were made by a shop that built frames for Colnago - AFAIK, even Colnagos aren't built by Colnago, but by a bunch of contract shops (in Italy back then, Taiwan and PRC now). Anyway, I'd say go for it.

yep looks legit. there's a couple high end nishiki models built in italy. i have one: a maxima rides very nice. has two cable guide brazeons on the top tube like colnagos but i don't think that necessarily means it was built through colnago.

I have a soft-spot for Japanese + Italian bicycles. My Univega Super Strada with Campy Super Record fits this bill. Anyway, I think my affection comes from the fact that they're so unique. Each Japanese manufacturer usually only had one model like this, and it was always what they considered "top of the line." I haven't seen this Nishiki before, but I was eyeballing a Nishiki "Ultimate" some time ago that had a full Campy groupset. I hope this works out for you and please show it to us once it's built up. Cervino & Maxima frames were made in Italy. The Maxima supposedly by Colnago, the Cervino possibly by Olmo. (Reports by two sources say theirs were delivered in Olmo boxes). Circa 1983 or thereabouts.

NitroBob's 1984 Cervino on wooljersey (http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/NITROBOBs-GARAGE/Nishiki-Cervino/) has the shifter mount on the top of the TT

The Ultimate was made in Japan by Kawamura and sported a Campy Nouvo Record groupset.
