Talking with “Schwinn Guys” I’m usually told that all ’71 Super Sports had stamped drop outs. I say that most but not all of the 1971 Super Sports have stamped drop outs.

The ’71 SS that I bought new had Campy drop outs (I saw one on eBay a few years ago with Campy too) and one I picked up recently has Huret.

I’m not involved with the sale but there’s a Brown SS on eBay listed a 1971 and it appears to have forged drop outs too.

Just thought I mention it.

The catalog for 71 and 70 shows it with forged dropout. They don't specify what dropouts come on it also.

Though the The 72 shows it's with stamped dropouts though.

I've never seen any Schwinn Super Sport with Campy dropouts.

I always thought they came with Huret dropouts if they were forged. Funny thing was that they never put Huret derailleurs on the frames with Huret dropouts from what I've seen. My first Sports Tourer had a Campy Gran Turismo and my last one which was a 71 had a Schwinn Approved unit. The only thing I knew that came with Campy dropouts back then was just Paramounts. The SS was basically a Sports Tourer without the european bottom bracket shell I always though. Both had fillet brazed straight gauge chromoly tubing.

Funny thing was that they never put Huret derailleurs on the frames with Huret dropouts from what I've seen.

The early Super Sports('64-'66 and perhaps later) came with Sprint derailleurs which were rebadged Hurets.

The predecessor to the SS was the '62/'63 Superior which had the same frame but cosmetically fancier, and it was equipped with Huret derailleurs.
