Bicycle Mechanics - Mystery Bottom Bracket, any ideas?

So, I've looked all over the internet, I've gone to several LBs, and I can't find the right tool to get this old bottom bracket off. The vintage specialty shop I went to had never seen it before, and told me to just take a hammer to it to remove it. I'm just wondering if any of you brilliant bike-minded folks new what it was, and where/if I could get an appropriate tool to remove it so I can grease it.
It comes off of a 1982 Trek 720. Other components on the bike were Dura Ace ax (stem, crank, pedals), Suntour Cyclone Mach II derailleurs, Phil Wood hubs and Winemann wheels.

I've never seen one of those either, but if I needed a tool to remove it, I'd probably take the typical Shimano-type splined tool and use my Dremel to remove enough splines that the remaining ones can engage those cups. Since I also have a Pedros hold-down tool that prevents the splined tool from slipping out of the notches, I'd use that for good measure.

A sufficiently long M8x1.0 bolt and a washer will act as a good hold down for the removal tool too. It threads into the crank fixing bolt hole. BTW, the threading is M8x1.0, not the more common M8x1.25 and 40 to 50 mm length is usually about right.
Is it one of these?

It's looks a whole lot like that, but slightly smaller so that the diameter is smaller than the internal diameter of the bottom bracket. This tool would help me retighten the lock ring that the LBS was able to remove.

I was thinking of doing exactly that - I imagine I'd be able to get the pitch/spacing right by taking out 2-3 splines, skipping one, taking out 2-3 etc. I'll go pick up a cheap shimano spline tool, and see if I've got enough grinding wheels.

That's a good idea, I'll go hit up Ace for the bolt, and see if I can adapt it to mechBgon's suggestion.
