Bicycle Mechanics - American Classic Seatpost

Hi,

I am considering this seatpost as due to my odd body shape I need my seatpost facing backwards so I can get my knee / pedal position correct. I know that not all normal seatposts can be used backwards as they often don't have enough adjustment to get the tilt correct, so this one looks ideal.

I've read a lot about the bolt snapping on these seatposts but the threads were from '06 so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on these seatposts?

I have an American Classic seatpost on my 1996 Litespeed that was purchased new with the bike and now has over 70,000 miles on it with no problems at all. The only "trick" to installing and adjusting these posts is to be certain the tip of the tilt adjusting screw is seated in the small pocket in the lower saddle clamp bracket. If the adjusting screw isn't placed correctly, the clamp can rotate and I can see how this could break the larger clamping bolt.

Another candidate is the Thomson seatpost. The version with no setback can position your saddle further forward.

I have tow friends who have broken the bolts on their AC posts. I wouldn't take the chance. One of the guys is a 140 pounder.

I'd like to know how they did it and if they installed the saddle clamp properly. I'm about 150 lbs and, as noted above, my AC seatpost has over 70,000 miles and is still in fine shape never having given any problems at all.

Oh well I've bought it now - will let you know how it goes!!
