Classic & Vintage - found a schwinn ladies world tourist at a yard sale for 50 dollars

it has a lugged frame and it looks like this one though not quite as good condition, it needs tires and a chain and the rear reflector is broken, but do you think its a pretty good deal, keep in mind i am new to biking so try to not make me feel like a ****** for asking this

It's a low end road bike that needs work. If it's been sitting it might need a complete overhaul. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for it and only if you can do the work yourself.

Don't feel too bad if people on B.F. may not think this is a really smokin' deal. B.F. members are the guys (and a few gals) who nail pristine condition, high-end campagnolo-equipped road bikes with Reynolds 531 frames, Mavic rims and Brooks leather saddles for $20 at garage sales...then do a 100 mile ride ("century") on them, then use them as wall art until the next 100 mile ride. :thumb:

Did you buy it yet? If so, if you get alot of use out of it, it is a good deal. Can you try soaking the chain in a bag with motor oil to loosen it up? Is it really too far gone? Try Niagara Cycle Works for reasonably priced tires for this bike. If you haven't bought it yet, keep looking.

If you wanted that type of bike then you got a good deal. Chains and reflector is cheap. The only thing is you have to know how to grease the bearings. There is a book out on restoring Schwinns. I think the quality is probably OK if it was US or Japanese bike.

Its probably a Giant built bike. If memory serves me, it has a front freewheel. Nice fenders and comfort riding position. In my area, bikes like these are popular among the older and retires couples. During my rides, I must see dozens of them just casually cruising along at 5-10 mph. I think if you can fix it up nice, and market it to the appropriate genre, you have a good chance of getting back what you put into it.

If I wanted it to ride that price isn't bad as long as the bike is complete. Buy it to flip? No.

+1 to the above -- $50 too much as is, OK if pristine, too much for flipping, and is an entry-level road bike. If you don't need another bike, then this isn't for you. HOWEVER, if you're into "saving" bikes, supplying your friends and family with decent vintage bikes, or on a mission to convert people to cycling, one motorist at a time, then you could do worse than this bike -- but the selling price still needs to be half the asking price.
