Classic & Vintage - 80's Atala Campione del mondo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am considering buying this bike, because, well Im falling for it. However, the asking price is high and Im having difficulty finding any information on this exact model. It is a (mid?) 80s black atala with the writing campione del mondo on it, and no other model designation. It has a full campagnolo group set (no idea which one) and campy hubs with mavic tubular rims. Apparently it is indexed shifting though. The asking price is $500, and Im considering it if I could get it for $350-400 (although I dont know if he will go this low). Any idea on the quality/value of this bike, and what type of components are on it? Here is a link to the ad with pictures and a vague description.

Thanks, Im just getting into biking and looking for a proper sized bike.

It looks OK. It's hard to see the frame but, as the seller states, it was the same as ridden by the Atala team. I would try to check that out though.
It looks like it had an 86 to 87 Campagnolo Victory (or Triomphe) groupset but the rear derailleur and brake/shifter levers were changed at a later stage to run 8 speeds. I think the shifter / derailleur combination is about a 93 vintage. That combination alone is probably worth $200 to $300 on ebay at present.
The Victory Groupset was a good racing groupset for a club racer at that time and is good quality stuff. I don't think the seatpost is a Campagnolo item though.
I would check out the frame though just to make sure that it is a top quality racing frame. To me, it doesn't look like a professional race bike quality frame. It may ride very well all the same. Perhaps the Bulgier website has an old Atala catalogue you could look at:

For $500 you would really want an Atala. I think your estimate of $350 - $400 is closer to the mark.

I checked out bulgier before and this bike doesnt match any of the pictures. Since I wasn't able to find any pictures or information on it, I figured this forum was the next stop. I am still interested in it and any information on it. Thanks for the reply about the group information, that makes more sense now, those shifters didnt look original. Has anyone seen one of these before?

Atala Campione del Mondo 1982-1983-1984
New to the forum. I'm a mostly daily rider as part of my exercise routine (not a racer). I've been riding a Felt 45 for several years. The other day I picked up a Vintage Atalia del Mondo 1982-1983-1984 at an estate sale. Trying to gather some information on it - . i.e. lower level, mid-level etc. I've scoured the forum. Found a serial number on bottom of frame Serial # 84H6458. Campignolo front and rear (can't find a model name), Tullio tubing, Ofmega Sugino Chainwheel, Modolo Corsa brakes. Corsaire suede saddle. Wheels have a label that's partly worn off. - can make out first letters AMB...19 and the word Extra below the name.
.
Bike definitely shows use - some pitting and scratched paint but overall parts seem pretty clean and functional. Would appreciate any thoughts or insights or direction to research further. Thanks in advance
