So its almost ten p.m, I'm blasting death metal, and have been reduced to cleaning my *free* bikes hubs with Q-tips, and hydrogen peroxide. Any quick home-brew solutions to get these things clean? Not just the inside the outside also. Thanks :thumb:

I've never cleaned inside a hub with anything other than a rag on my fingertip.
And wiped the exterior with a rag, too.

Hydrogen peroxide? Really? most home brew stuff doesn't work. Just get some degreaser and clean the hubs with that and quit playing around.

Wish I could find it! Anyways this seems to be working rather well! Will update if it explodes on me or something. *SIDENOTE* For some reason it makes my hands smell odd. Kinda like vinegar.

Mineral spirits or paint thinner should be readily available at your local hardware store.

Paint thinner! I forgot there's like a gallon of that stuff around here.. Oh-well I already cleaned it (rather nicely) with hydrogen peroxide. Thanks for the reminder though.:thumb:

Putting an oxidizing agent and an acid - commonly used to eat unwanted copper off of PCBs - in your hubs sounds like a really bad idea.

Its just to get all the old grease and other "stuff" out. The bike sat in the rain for a LONG time from what I saw. It was free so I can't really complain, and I'm making sure to wash it out with water, and drying it immediately.

It can't explode unless you mix it with gasoline and smoke while cleaning!
