The Spartan bikes I have seen pics of were all just Bike Boom department store quality bikes.

"Sparta" is a dutch brand.
I recall correctly, they were a second tier brand until recent years, making nice but not especially note-worthy bicycles. I don't know if they made road bikes, they certainly made Dutch Roadsters.

I found it on craigslist, all i got from the guy was that it's a 10 speed men's bike that he bought in either 82 or 83 and it's been sitting since 86. He said it's a "Spartan" with drop bars. I'm going to see it at 4 so I'll have a better idea then.

Alright I picked it up, was only $25, brought it home, it's a tad too small, but it's definitely a department store bike. Looks like it was never used for more than a mile. Has strange foam pads instead of wrapped bars though. Might try and flip it real quick for $50 so i can pick something else up.
