Classic & Vintage - 1970-5 Fuji Finest

Hi friends, I just acquired a Fuji finest. The challenge that I have in dating it, is that I cannot make out the serial number. I can make out the last two digits, but that is all. I have done some reading on similar Finests, and I can narrow it down to the early 70's! I will post some pictures, or a link to photobucket. Thanks to all for your time, and feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Forget the serial number, just check the component codes. All the Suntour stuff is date coded, and I bet the stem, seat post, brake calipers, fork (steering tube) will also have date codes. Dating old bikes is really easy, as long as the components are original. Once the components get changed, then it gets quite a bit tougher.

I'm going to guess late-72 to 75. My early 72 Finest does not have the top tube decal. I read that the very early ones did not come with "The Finest" sticker.

And everyone knows if it's on the internet, it has to be the truth.. :D

73 or 74.

- Black shifter covers showed up in 73. Coverless Suntour Power Shifters showed up in 75.
- Your TTT stem isn't original.
- 72, 73 and 74 speced a Suntour V RD, which you have. 75 had a V-Luxe.

I vote 73 or 74. The difference may be so subtle as to be only discernible through components date codes: http://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm#suntour

I agree with Khatfull. My early Finest didn't have the top tube decal either.

Hi Scott, you are correct based on the serial number that I was able to decipher with a magnifying glass, and with the help of the classic Fuji website. The number is K7D0024. I appreciate everyones time, feedback, and help! Phenomenal job!
