Just noticed a colnago on ebay with confente spade cutouts? The guys' description is in Italian so I dont have a clue what he is saying about it? Anyone out there with any insight on this one?

rjcarnelvale is offering or was offering at an insane price a shorty seat post with the same spade cut out, in a C very close to Colnago's. This is not the first Colnago with a spade like cut out. Some of the Colner bikes use one not exact to this but similar.

This bike does not appear as Mario's work but the seller knows enough to ride the name. 1980 would be a difficult year for Mario to build this bike, he died in March 1979.

99% that it's a Colner (though a pretty nice example)...and a hella heavy opening bid ($2300) for any Colner!

Confente fans don't buy Confentes for badly-filed lugs, offset and unfilled vent holes, and bottom brackets stamped "RV."

The bike was for sale online for 300 euros not that long ago in Italy... The seller was then stating that it was a Colner that had been repainted.

Ralph has absolutely nothing to do with this auction. Ralph is also very amenable when you deal with him face to face. Nothing wrong with asking high prices if you know that most parts will not sell.

I guess I was thinking about the dented metal water bottles that were discussed here a while ago. You are right, nothing wrong w/ asking high prices, easy to steer clear of.

This is driftng a bit, but notice that the three bikes shown all have a slightly different way of guiding the shift cables, the earliest with the trenches on either side of the tunnel, the last with no trenches and the "tunnel" open and longer. And for those "inside baseball" notes, the earliest has a significantly larger breathing hole for the chain stay bridge.

The first two are the same - the overexposure hides the recessed cable grooves in the second photo.
