Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to mountain biking so I apologize for the newbie question.

When descending, I have my chain in the big ring and small cog combo. If I'm going fast and hit some rough parts of the trail, my chain flys off from the big ring to the outside of the crank.

Should I be using a different gear? This didnt seem like a problem until the last week.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The bike is a single pivot 2011 Santa Cruz superlight.

Move the chain to the biggest cog. That should solve the problem.

If not, than your chain might be too loose.

it could be your derailleur limits are off and need to adjusted. also chain in big ring and small cog means lots of slack, you can pedal and cause the chain to come off.

Chain might be too long, also may be a single pivot issue... the wheel axle travels in an arc which leads to tensioning and slackening the chain. Chains do get dropped, but consistent dropping is usually a result of poor setup.
