Forward to the last half of the video if you don't care about the first five minutes of my morning commute, but you'll miss out on a couple of good songs.

The hill is a narsty one, and thankfully in the morning I only go halfway up it. One you crest this beast, the road drops back down about 3/4 the elevation and then climbs right back up to that level again; then for fun, does it a 3rd time but only 1/2 the elevation drop and gain.

Do you have Garmin data for that climb, it looks really tough, the thought of doing it on a 44 x 17 singlespeed makes my legs hurt :)

I saw a couple of brave cyclists attempt that, and next time I'm there I must try it as well. When I rode there, I was amazed by how many steep switchbacks and hills there are in Seattle. A compact chain set is a must! Nice riding!

I ran out of my allergy medicine the day previous. The edited version is much preferrable to the "full blast" version of listening to me air-hanky every couple minutes. :p

I don't ride with a GPS, so I don't have any data for it. I'll have to throw it into a mapping program in see what the elevation comes up to.

The cars are not out because people here in the Seattle metro don't roll their asses out of bed until 10:00 or so on the weekend. Heck, many of them can't be troubled to do much better during the week.
My wife works at Microsoft and says that there are lots of people who don't come in until between 10 and 11, then stay until 9pm or so. I'm not an evening person. By 9pm, I'm already thinking about bed. Heck, it's 10pm and this is my last post before knocking off for the night so I can be up at 4am.

It was interesting to watch the video and I don't think I saw 1 person and only the odd car. I suppose I'm not used to that.

Wait to see the upcoming vids of the homebound commute on a nice day... Cars jammed up all down to the highway along both main roads I take, people out in droves on the MUP, right-hooks awaiting at every intersection. At least I leave before getting stuck in the real rush hour. I'm out at 3pm and home by 4:30, so I just catch the leading edge of it. Then I get to look off my balcony and see the entire 8 lanes of the freeway backed up and laugh about how glad I am to not be stuck in it. :D

That's probably similar to what I experience when I climb in cold weather. The cold-induced runny nose drives me nuts. :o

When you get more allergy medicine I'd love to see an unedited climb vid. ;)

It's a low res (original Twenty20 VholdR) camera with a low fps, so what you're missing out on is the real humour of that sign. It actually says 52, because the sensor is knocked out of alignment and points over at the SR-520. I was hoping it would pick up the sign better, just because it's so danged funny to see me creeping up this hill at 6 - 7mph by the time I'm near the sign, and it says 50mph+ :lol:

I'm working on rigging up some twin cam mounts for split screen editing (my Contour HD arrives today) and I've almost figured out a stem mount to point down at the computer so I can do a PiP screen showing the computer stats.

My knees hurt just watching that. Holy hell.

I've been doing most of my miles singlespeed since recovering from a late season injury last year, and I've found that there's a technique for long climbs. I stand up, get a little bit forward of the cranks to put all my weight as leverage, and then it's just like walking up a set of stairs. If it's too steep for just my body weight to handle, then I'll lean the bike and pull the bars a bit. If it's too steep for that then I hop off and use the 24" gear. ;) I use that more on the MTB trails.

Don't feel bad...I totally blow stop signs at the top of hills as well. :thumb:

Wow, that old cam did a great job!:D I have two Flip recorders (required for 3D) and have seen a tutorial on youtube about doing a 3D video. Sound interesting but it's already a load of work.:D

I have no 3D aspirations so far, but I have seen some amazing 9-camera rig ups using all Contour HD cameras to make full 3D videos. I'm really not that into it.
My biggest bits of work are going to be the rear rack mounts. One sitting just behind the rear wheel at ~shoulder height "The Chase Cam", and a high-mount version of it as a 3rd person "eye in the sky" view. The fun (and scary) one will be the "Close Call Cam" mounted rear-facing on the outside of my traffic side pannier.
