Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Reply to your title quote

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

"I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? " Indeed! When I was under 20 I'd do 15-20 miles a day on a 20 inch banana bike converted to BMX with a solo seat & went "Mt. biking" off road all day on a 40lb single speed coaster brake bike.
Now I am just over fifty & I'll take all the gears I can get. I am now old enough to appreciate the technology of deraileurs & shifters. It was cool to have the hottest legs around from riding single speeds when I was under 45 but nothing lasts forever so enjoy it while you can! ;)

I enjoy riding fixie for the fun of the work out and the thrills of riding around town through intersections and whatnot. Biking around like what some would call an idiot has its thrills and this is the best time to do it. Absolutely will get a roadie for long distance in the future though. Bike4lyfe

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this forum.

When I saw this post I knew Scrod wouldn't be far behind.
Unless someone plans on buying one for me, I don't plan on owning another bike with gears.

My last 9 bikes have been SSFG, and the last time I bought a bike with gears was 7 years ago. My life is bass ackwards.
