This week I started training to run/bike/run. I hope to be in good shape to put in a good showing next year. I know that my times for the runs need to be in sub 20 range for my age for the run and I am not sure about the bike. Now I am at 24:20 for a 5k which is great considering I took 3 months off. I can usually run a comfortable 7:52 or lower when I get my feet under me correctly. VFFs are hard to get the rhythm back once you have taken some time off.

Now I am biking 20 miles a day, 5 days per week as a commuter and will be putting in longer rides on the weekend. I am running 5k every other day and using a Swiss ball for weight and resistance.

My plan is run 5k and use the ball every other day until my body settles in. This is typically a week.

After that I will be using a Nike+ marathon program to keep my miles up.

My run therefor is taken care of, but how should the bike miles increase on the weekends and should there be some kind of cross training? I am considering Tabata training as my cross of choice.

Thanks
