I've been out of work for some time and have been building my own business, which is actually going fairly well.

My COBRA benefits were up, so I went looking for an individual plan here in Oregon.

I am 51 with absolutely no pre-existing conditions. I have been healthy all my life and I ride a bike 4-5 days a week.

4 years ago, my wife ran off with another guy. The divorce took its toll both financially and emotionally...and then I lost my job. I had a bout with anxiety for which I took meds for 2 months. Yes, 2 months. Things have been fine ever since.

But, because of that, I am being declined coverage from a reputable provider. I guess I will now need to apply to a bunch in order to (hopefully) find one.

Frustrating....

I hear ya. My wife being pregnant was a "pre-existing condition" which made it tough for us, too!

Have you tried applying for state benefits yet? You would most likely be eligible and it would help you until you got on your feet.

I can't get life insurance, so I'm familiar with what you're going through.

I even challenged them to a bicycle race - they declined.

Even Rad has limits. You just pushed them hard.

Tell them about the Tete, Rad, they might reconsider. Imagine they have a large claim to pay to you and they just keep dragging out paying it, they could work you for what, 6 or 7 years easy.
