I'm fighting a creaking sound myself on a new Specialized. It's not easy to get feedback on this topic, it seems. Can be so many different things, I guess.
Apparently, one of the biggest problems is determining the source. I'm getting creaking when I pedal, but I've discovered recently that it's only for the first couple of miles. Then it goes away. Today, I loosened my rear axle/quick release, and that seemed to help. I'm beginning to think it's related to that, but I'm not a mechanic.

i doubt its my skewers because it's when i mash the pedals when i'm coasting it dosent creek. do u have u springs on the right way? i know my quick relase things were screwy and i found out i put the springs in wrong.
I had this creaking sound once, Check your pedals I checked mine and tightened it and it went away.

Loose chainring bolts can cause creaking.

I just asked about this at my trusted LBS. They suggested that I spray pledge on my pedals and cleats...I'll try it tomorrow but I'll bet that's it, I had this problem once before and it went away. BTW, it only really makes the squaking noice when I'm really hammering or charging up a hill.

They oughta start betting pools for these "creak" threads. It always turns out to be something different. Last season I had a creak that, for the life of me, I just couldn't track down. It would creak when I pedaled, when I coasted but moved my body, sitting down, standing up, on the bike stand, etc. I looked at all the usual suspects and then some (saddle rails, water bottle cage, knees).
Finally discovered that the sound was coming from a seatpost shim that I never even realized was there (for some reason the post came shimmed when I bought it, unbeknownst to me). Go figure.

I've had a creak from the pedals on a few different bikes. It comes and it goes, sometimes it'll just tighten itself and go away with enough riding but it's nothing too serious just a little obnoxious. (but it could be any number of things x, y and z as well I suppose)
