Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A Mt. Shasta to Yreka CA. trip was marred by a lack of planing on my part for water. I have made the trip before but it got much hotter this time (102, usually in the low 70s) and I had to ration the water. Slowly dehydrating I continued looking for a house I could get water from. I found one and drank to much at once and got bloated. You would think a desert rat would know better. I got into some mountains and a little shade once and a while but started to cramp, and I knew it was over. I called the wife, swallowed what was left of my pride and said, "honey, do you still love me"? She was there in a jiffy with some nice cool water. I was very glad I did not push it to hard.

Good call, trying to tuff it out with no fluids may have had dire conquences. I had to call my wife for sag support a few weeks ago. I rode my vintage bike with tubular tires and got a flat then discovered the stem on my spare tubular, tucked up under the seat, had a crack in it.

You rode. You called her. She came.
Even with the dehydration and cramping it really was a pretty good day.

No shame in calling when you need help. At least you didn't try to tough it out - things could have ended much worse.
You could have kept it a secret and not told us.
Calling was the right thing to do and thanks for sharing.

Hate it when that happens (and I did the same about a month ago).

My geography might be a little off, but, did you stop by Weed and get your t-shirt? 102....yeah, a bit too warm for me, but ya done good. :thumb:

Even the pros have a sag wagon.
You didn't say what her answer was?

231 max cadence is pretty impressive. Garmin Connect is pretty cool, but there is always good goofy data in there.

Glad you called because you might have become statistic. I backed out of my last big ride because I started cramping. I even mistook directions on a road I had been on all my life going back to a check point. Good thing a guy happened by with a rescue vehicle but I wasn't in the environment you were in. Good call.

Sounds like you owe someone a bottle of wine,a box of chocolates, a big boquet of roses and a thanks honey. One does have to keep the SAG wagon driver happy, just in case you might need their services again, when you do something else. :D
Good call. I am usually too stupid to have that kind of sense.

Weed is a small town between Mt. Shasta and Yreka but is bypassed by the route I take.

For some reason the Garmin was acting up. It was 9 miles off my computer and quit several times clocking speed and elevation. I had a clear view of the sky so not sure the reason. It never happened before. I guess it was just one of those things.

Well, they say with planes, that any landing you walk away from is a good landing, so sounds like you did all right.
I've made a couple of calls like that, hated doing it, but never regretted it, either.
I did have one neat experience, though. I was out riding my Worksman cruiser on a long loop, got hot, ran out of water. Just about then, a lady in a convertible stopped and asked if I needed water. I don't know if she was psychic or sent from above or whether I just looked dry, but it sure was nice, and got me on around the loop.
