Well, I got away with a foolish stunt for the 4th of July. We got hit with a really bad thunderstorm and extremely high wind, and the boat blew over on the lift. Now, picture this: I'm out in a massive thunderstorm, standing on the aluminum frame of a shore station, in 100 MPH winds, in a storm with massive lightning levels hitting the lake, and the lift is in the lake, sticking a 35' aluminum pole up in the air to keep my boat from being wrecked.

Now, after, when the lake calmed down, at least the fireworks were great off the lake barge. Mother Nature added hers, as lightning was popping around the whole horizon, as well and the thunder rolling in was nearly as loud as the fireworks.

Aluminum pole? I'd want either carbon fiber, steel, or titanium. ;)

Carbon Fiber might explode.

Can we assume the SS Minnow is in one piece and you have your eyebrows?

They do make Carbon Fiber masts, actually, as well as hulls, but I own a 25 year old Johnson Boat Works boat, and would have to heavily modify the mast step for a CF mast. It would be cheaper to buy a new Melges I boat than to convert mine for CF.

Actually, she's called Orion.

It did try to kill you... sounds like you already have this figured out then. But what will the new one be called?

You're about as lucky as I was a few years ago. I was pedaling in water that was about knee deep when I realized the hissing and humming sounds coming from the high tension power lines overhead could be more serious than usual as the water I was pedaling in was up over the base of the supports for the power lines. I made it out ok though.

That's as dumb as riding a steel bike in a t-storm. I wouldn't know anything about that even though all my bikes are steel. :innocent:
