Hybrid Bicycles - Best Kevlar Tires for a 700 x 40 (or 700 x 38)?

I'm relatively new to biking. I have a Giant Roam 1, which is a hybrid/dual sport.

I have some 700 x 40 tires on it now, with slick-ish tops and knoby sides. What are some good kevlar tires for a 700 x 40 (or I guess I could go down to a 700 x 38 if need be?)

The Vittoria Randonneur Touring tire comes in a 700x38 and is known for its value, durability and ride. The Continental Travel Contact and the Schwalbe Marathon Dureme tires are more expensive but widely acclaimed as some of the best tires of their type available.

Best for what?

Best puncture resistance: Specialized Armadillo. But they are HEAVY.

Kevlar or no kevlar, "goathead" thorns are winners everytime.

I have Freedom™ Ryder (http://www.freedombicycle.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,24/category_id,9/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,58/) touring tires. They are great. But I am going to turn them into my spares and run 700x28c Serfas Secas. I just like running narrower tires.

Schwalbe Marathon ... any one of those is simply superb but also expensive, obviously.
A cheaper alternative are the ones I use: Schwalbe CX Comp ... a lot cheaper and also usable for every purpose and very puncture resistant ... I rode in an actual piece of metal wire and it went in and out of the rubber but couldn't get through the kevlar layer. These come in 28 and 35 ... I don't know whether or not they come in 38.

Truth. If you see a goathead thorn in your tire, I don't care what tire it is... immediately stop and pull it out. If you don't I guarantee it will puncture any tire made after you roll over it some more and mash it through the casing.
