As some of you know, zbout 14 months ago my wife had knee surgery which did not go well. Among other things, she went into severe pain from her SI joint separating and not working well. Her doc said she may never ride again.
This whole episode, the pain, the lack of mobility (she had to use one of those little scooters when she went to the grocery, for example) and subsequent depression, was devastating to both of us. She hated being left alone, so I gave up much of my riding and starting using a trainer (ugh).
After a year+ of intensive therapy and extremely hard work on her part, we are now riding again. She doesn't yet ride her road bike (too much of a bend), but does ride her mtn bike. At the doc's orders, I lowered the seat some so it would not strain the SI joint so much, and we started with very short 3-4 mile rides. Two days ago, she did a 12 miler, and we have been doing 8-10 miles regularly - and she is feeling great.
She LOVES biking.
Her goal is to once again ride up and down Vail Pass (a 2,000 foot gain going up over a 12 mile one-way ride and then another 12 down). I am sure she will be ready to do this again this summer.
Life is good.
