Hi, im am an operator of a surly steamroller track bike and im looking to put in new wheels for it. Right now im running 27 inchers on it, but i'm looking to put in 700c. Of course, one of the things i'll have to decide on is rims. But there are so many. any suggestions? I live in nyc so im looking for something that i can ride on the streets and take to the velodrome when i wanna and got the time.
Also, as of now, there are 36 spokes on my 27" wheels but i only weigh about 116, no more than 125 anytime soon. I dont wanna add on extra weight if i dont have to. Also im planning on using 14 guage spokes. As for hubs, im thinking of matching it with surly hubs, or maybe suzue promax or something.

I don't think a few spokes is going to make a real difference in weight.

DT Revolutions would make for a lighter and stronger wheel.
At your weight you could easily go to 24 front, 28 rear.

I'll recommend the Sun CR-18. Solid rim, and not too expensive.

let me ask you people this. do any of you run your bikes on the local velodrome on clinchers. and if so, what rims or wheel or whatever. but mostly, what rim.
